Yamaha Clavinova CLP-600 series pianos just got a whole lot more flexible! A firmware upgrade to version 2.0 will enable an iphone or ipad to command functions on your piano. The shop display models have been updated with the new firmware to demonstrate the app. Although some of the features are not available on the CLP range , (such as the rhythm function), The CLP-6 series Yamaha Clavinovas can be navigated for sound and functions.
Also impressive is the new audio facility, which can have your music library files on your portable device transmitted down the usb-host cable, (using the camera connector from Apple), along with the tone and note commands for midi and audio based apps like Yamaha Note Star.
While this is all really great, the more complete functionality of the app, for song content, rhythms and wider orchestral sounds can only be achieved by investing in one of the CSP series of pianos such as the Yamaha Clavinova CSP-150 or CSP-170 Digital Pianos. The CSP series can connect in a number of ways to your portable device, multiple cables and wifi dongles all give great results.
Previous playing using Bluetooth for the audio along with Note Star for example did leave open some timing issues between the two sources, so it’s great to be able to have the audio and midi transmitted together thanks to this firmware upgrade.
